Simpson to seek District 10 seat

Stephen Simpson announced recently that he will seek the Republican nomination for the open 10th Congressional district seat being vacated by Congressman Paul Broun. The 10th district includes parts of 25 counties throughout the heart of Georgia.

In front of a large crowd of friends and supporters at the Oconee Veterans Park, Simpson was joined by Oconee County Commission Chairman Melvin Davis and Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry.

"America is on the wrong track," Simpson said. "We face a nationaldebt that threatens national security, an administration incapable of telling the truth, and new big-government health care laws that burden businesses and hurt American workers." Simpson served in the U.S. Army for twenty years, including two tours in the Pentagon before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. "I took an oath as a young Army officer to uphold and defend the Constitution. When politicians continue to infringe on our constitutional liberties, I can no longer stand by and watch."

"We are over-taxed, over-regulated and over-litigated and Georgia's $72 billion agri-business is suffering under the strain of excessive federal regulation," Simpson said. "I'm running because there's a crisis of leadership in Washington, D.C. I've served my country before and I am ready to serve again," Simpson said.

A native of Milledgeville, Simpson and his wife Susan of 40 years retained their Milledgeville residence throughout his military service, which took him and his family from Virginia to Arizona and two tours in Europe during the Cold War. At the Pentagon, Simpson served as an intelligence officer with the Defense Intelligence Agency and later for the Secretary of the Army in the Office of Con- gressional Liaison. Since retiring from the military, Simpson has worked in the banking industry and has owned a small business.

Simpson is an active member in his Church and community and enjoys flying, jogging, gardening, scuba diving, Braves baseball, and college football. Stephen and Susan have two sons, Stephen Jr. (wife Hibernia) and Scott (wife Katie and daughter Jillian).
